Jon Stewart dissects Bush's latest 'desperate soundbites'

Jon Stewart, the show's host, noted that there was something "peculiar" about President Bush's August 21st White House press conference. Bush was in Washington, DC, explained Stewart. President Bush is known for spending the month of August vacationing at his ranch in Crawford, Texas. "What could be so important as to lure our president from the spa like oasis that is Crawford, Texas?," asked Stewart.

The Daily Show takes the occasion to analyze Mr. Bush's press conference into a string of humorous clips and commentary. And having one of his favorite subjects as fodder, Jon Stewart enjoys delivering performance well-received by his audience. From Bush's foreign policy to the emotions reflected in speech to his tendency to restate obvious, the clip doesn't seem to miss an opportunity to lampoon the president.

Just recently, the U.S. and Canada initiated a military war game exercise called: Vigilant Guardian (very similar to the vigilant guardian war game that was conducted during 9/11).

Then today, Iran initiated their own war game exercise

Mix this in with the mainstream media propaganda reports that an attack of some sort is likely to happen between Iran and Israel on August 22nd, and we have a recipe which could cook up a series of false flag terror attacks in the Middle East, the U.K, and the U.S./Canada.

This of course wouldn't be that big of surprise considering AJ issued an advance warning and a courageous call to action quickly ensued against these false flag terror attacks last week.

If these operations come to pass without an attack, then there will only be a temporary sigh of relief, because there are at least several other remaining military operations set up within the U.S. and abroad for the remainder of the year that could serve to facilitate the precursor to another 9/11 style false flag terror attack.

It would be wise to keep your heads on a swivel, and your sites set on the activities of this government and these military operations.

Seymour Hersh: U.S. involved in Israeli plans to invade Lebanon
RAW STORY Published: Sunday August 13, 2006

In an article for the New Yorker, renowned investigative journalist Seymour Hersh states that the Bush administration was closely involved in last month's invasion of Lebanon by Israel, RAW STORY has learned.

Hersh describes the administration's initial reaction to the invasion as "strangely passive," with George W. Bush saying on July 16, "It’s a moment of clarification" and Condoleezza Rice stating two days later that a ceasefire should wait until "the conditions are conducive."

Hersh's intelligence and diplomatic sources tell him that the reason for this hands-off reaction was that George Bush and Dick Cheney already knew about Israeli plans for a bombing campaign against Hezbollah's underground missile complexes and were convinced that it could both increase Israel's security and serve as a prelude to a American pre-emptive attack on Iran's nuclear installations.

TIME: When terror imitates the soda commercial

An article at TIME.com notes that a soft drink commercial that mockingly depicts airport security agents confiscating a passenger's soda just so they can drink it themselves can still be seen on cable televison, and, in light of recent events, even the "normally irony-aware people at The Daily Show" haven't tried "stopping" it, RAW STORY has found.

"Comedy writers are always fighting the last war," writes Joel Stein for Time.com. "And people who book commercials on cable channels don't pay a lot of attention."
"PepsiCo, which owns Sierra Mist, says the commercial, which started airing in February, conveniently ended its official run on Sunday-three days before the foiling of the British terrorism plot was announced and 'liquid explosives' became a ubiquitous term," the article continues.

"But cable companies are scheduled to dribble out the spot ads until Tuesday, and neither Pepsi nor the normally irony-aware people at The Daily Show —which was still airing the commercial as of Thursday — are stopping them," writes Stein.

Bush seeks political gains from foiled plot

US President George W. Bush seized on a foiled London airline bomb plot to hammer unnamed critics he accused of having all but forgotten the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Weighed down by the unpopular war in Iraq, Bush and his aides have tried to shift the national political debate from that conflict to the broader and more popular global war on terrorism ahead of November 7 congressional elections.

The London conspiracy is "a stark reminder that this nation is at war with Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us who love freedom, to hurt our nation," the president said on a day trip to Wisconsin.

"It is a mistake to believe there is no threat to the United States of America," he said. "We've taken a lot of measures to protect the American people. But obviously we still aren't completely safe."

His remarks came a day after the White House orchestrated an exceptionally aggressive campaign to tar opposition Democrats as weak on terrorism, knowing what Democrats didn't: News of the plot could soon break.

Vice President Dick Cheney and White House spokesman Tony Snow had argued that Democrats wanted to raise what Snow called "a white flag in the war on terror," citing as evidence the defeat of a three-term Democratic senator who backed the Iraq war in his effort to win renomination.

Group of 9/11 widows 'question the veracity of the entire Commission’s report'

Four widows instrumental in getting Congress to push President Bush to create the 9/11 Independent Commission are insisting that it "failed in its duties" on the heels of two recent news reports which allege that some commissioners knew they were being "deceived" by NORAD officials, and the widows are now questioning "the veracity of the entire Commission’s report," RAW STORY has found.

In a statement released today by Patty Casazza, Monica Gabrielle, Mindy Kleinberg, and Lorie Van Auken - 1/3 of the Family Steering Committee for the 9/11 Independent Commission - the widows refer to the commission's mandate (Section 602 of Public Law 107-306).
Two of the five "purposes of the Commission" were to "ascertain, evaluate, and report on the evidence developed by all relevant governmental agencies regarding the facts and circumstances surrounding the attacks" and "make a full and complete accounting of the circumstances surrounding the attacks, and the extent of the United States' preparedness for, and immediate response to, the attacks."

"Recent stories in the Washington Post, the New York Times, as well as the release of the transcripts of the NORAD tapes in Vanity Fair, clearly show that the 9/11 Commission failed in its duties," says the widows' statement. Read Full Story

The National Security Agency is providing signal intelligence to Israel to monitor whether Syria and Iran are supplying new armaments to Hezbollah as it fires hundreds of missiles into northern Israel, according to a national security official with direct knowledge of the operation. President Bush has approved the secret program.

Inside the administration, neoconservatives on Vice President Dick Cheney's national security staff and Elliott Abrams, the neoconservative senior director for the Near East on the National Security Council, are prime movers behind sharing NSA intelligence with Israel, and they have discussed Syrian and Iranian supply activities as a potential pretext for Israeli bombing of both countries, the source privy to conversations about the program says. (Intelligence, including that gathered by the NSA, has been provided to Israel in the past for various purposes.) The neoconservatives are described as enthusiastic about the possibility of using NSA intelligence as a lever to widen the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah and Israel and Hamas into a four-front war.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is said to have been "briefed" and to be "on board," but she is not a central actor in pushing the covert neoconservative scenario. Her "briefing" appears to be an aspect of an internal struggle to intimidate and marginalize her. Recently she has come under fire from prominent neoconservatives who oppose her support for diplomatic negotiations with Iran to prevent its development of nuclear weaponry.

9/11 Panel Suspected Deception by Pentagon

Some staff members and commissioners of the Sept. 11 panel concluded that the Pentagon's initial story of how it reacted to the 2001 terrorist attacks may have been part of a deliberate effort to mislead the commission and the public rather than a reflection of the fog of events on that day, according to sources involved in the debate.

Suspicion of wrongdoing ran so deep that the 10-member commission, in a secret meeting at the end of its tenure in summer 2004, debated referring the matter to the Justice Department for criminal investigation, according to several commission sources. Staff members and some commissioners thought that e-mails and other evidence provided enough probable cause to believe that military and aviation officials violated the law by making false statements to Congress and to the commission, hoping to hide the bungled response to the hijackings, these sources said.

In the end, the panel agreed to a compromise, turning over the allegations to the inspectors general for the Defense and Transportation departments, who can make criminal referrals if they believe they are warranted, officials said.

"We to this day don't know why NORAD [the North American Aerospace Command] told us what they told us," said Thomas H. Kean, the former New Jersey Republican governor who led the commission. "It was just so far from the truth. . . . It's one of those loose ends that never got tied."

ISRAEL LAUNCHES ATTACK DEEP IN LEBANON

BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) - Israel launched a major attack deep into Lebanon, and Hezbollah said its guerrillas were fighting Israeli commandos trapped inside a hospital in the eastern city of Baalbek early Wednesday.

The Israeli army would not comment on the operation in the ancient city, which was once a Syrian army headquarters some 80 miles north of Israel. The Web site of the Israeli daily Haaretz reported that "helicopters put down IDF (military) commandos near Baalbek," without adding details.

The ferocity of the battles in Baalbek and across southern Lebanon on Tuesday, the determination of the Israelis to keep fighting and the minimal diplomatic progress toward a cease-fire all indicate the 3-week-old war is more likely to escalate than end soon.
Hezbollah's chief spokesman, Hussein Rahal, told The Associated Press that Israeli troops landed near Dar al-Hikma Hospital and that fierce fighting was raging after more than one hour. Read Full Story

Some Bush Sr. advisers 'deeply uneasy' with 'pro-Israeli tilt to the policies of the son'

Some advisers to the president's father are "deeply uneasy with the pro-Israeli tilt to the policies of the son," according to an article slated for the front page of Wednesday's New York Times, RAW STORY has found.

The paper reports that there is "a generational and philosophical divide between the Bushes" which "is creating friction between their camps."
"When they first met as United States president and Israeli prime minister, George W. Bush made clear to Ariel Sharon he would not follow in the footsteps of his father," writes Sheryl Gay Stolberg for the Times.

"The first President Bush had been tough on Israel, especially the housing settlements Sharon had helped develop," Stolberg continues. "But over tea in the Oval Office that day in March 2001 the new president charted a different course, going beyond the usual expression of support by pledging to use force to protect Israel."

"That embrace represents a generational and philosophical divide between the Bushes, one that is creating friction between their camps," writes Stolberg.

"As the president continues to defend Israel's bombing campaign against Hezbollah -- even after a devastating weekend attack that left dozens of Lebanese civilians dead and provoked international condemnation -- some advisers to the father are deeply uneasy with the pro-Israeli tilt to the policies of the son," Stolberg writes. Experts: Not a single Army Combat team left ready to deploy

A group of national security experts formed by Democratic leadership has reported to Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) that, "there is not a single non-deployed Army Brigade Combat Team in the United States that is ready to deploy," RAW STORY has learned.
"The bottom line," the group concludes in a letter to Democratic leadership, "is that our Army currently has no ready, strategic reserve."

Group identifies new flaws in Diebold evoting machines

GROUP: 'Vote counts can be changed with the flip of a a switch'

The Open Voting Foundation, a California-based nonprofit organization that works to promote the adoption of "open source" technology to the nation's voting machines, has announced it has found what it calls the "worst ever security flow found in Diebold RS voting machines."

The Foundation claims to have discovered a switch inside of the machine which, when flipped, can have the machine operate in "a completely different manner compared to the tested and certified version."

"Diebold has made the testing and certification process practically irrelevant," said the Foundation's President Alan Descert, in a statement obtained by RAW STORY. "If you have access to these machines and you want to rig an election, anything is possible with the Diebold TS -- and it could be done without leaving a trace.
